Love Cake: A Novel 2nd Edition (Paperback)

$16.00

“The book shows its scaffolding in terms of plot and intention, but the author’s portrayal of trans-cis and interracial relationships, plus the dynamics of Covid-19 and MAGA politics, give this novel a topical urgency.” - Kirkus Reviews

A Novel of Queer Love, Black Identity, and the Cost of Choosing Between Family and Truth

You finally found them—the person, the life, the feeling you thought might never come. A life that feels like yours—fully, freely, without apology. And just when you begin to settle into it, you realize how much it could cost you to keep it.

When you finally found happiness…
when you found your community…
when you found the person who loved you the most—

what did you do?

Love Cake (2nd Edition), the sequel to Cake Walk, is set in Houston during COVID-19, the Black Lives Matter protests, and rising political division. Bryan and Nadia build a queer bakery—a sanctuary for belonging and chosen family. But even safe spaces can’t shield you from the truth. Bryan loves Nadia deeply, yet fear lingers—because loving her openly may cost him his daughter.

When his daughter falls for a rising star in the MAGA movement, everything Bryan believes is challenged. Desperate to protect her future, he makes a secret decision that risks everything—including Nadia.

He tells no one.

Through meditation and Buddhist wisdom, Bryan confronts the truth that lasting love requires brave vulnerability.

Love Cake is a story of queer love told from a Black make perspective focused on LGBTQ+ relationships, the challenge of balancing new romantic relationships with children from a previous life, and the courage to live authentically—when everything you love is on the line.

“I also loved the ending. It made me cry. The book felt so real and raw that it could have been a memoir. I’m recommending this series to everyone I know.” - ARC Review

Why I Wrote Love Cake

I wrote Love Cake because I wanted transgender women to feel loved and to know they are deserving of the same tenderness, commitment, and public devotion that cisgender women receive in romantic relationships. Too often, trans women are desired privately but denied recognition openly. This story insists that their love is worthy of visibility, dignity, and celebration.

At the same time, I wanted to offer trans-attracted men an example of what courage can look like — the courage to confront shame, challenge expectations of masculinity, and choose honesty over secrecy when love asks to be seen.
