About the Author
Douglas Bell, a dynamic fiction author based in Houston, Texas, inspires readers to embrace authenticity and transformation. Writing under the pen name Douglas Bell, Troy Porter found the freedom to tell bold, groundbreaking stories that elevate overlooked perspectives, particularly the pain and passion of Black male voices. Grounded in the culture, food, architecture, and sports of Houston, Bell’s stories offer a rich, immersive backdrop that reflects the heart of the city. With a background in Architectural Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from Texas A&M’s Mays School of Business, Bell blends analytical precision with creative vision in his storytelling.
After nearly 40 years of predicting the cost of large-scale refinery and chemical plant construction for multinational oil companies, Bell transitioned to a mission-driven career focused on social impact. A life-changing divorce that revealed his second child was not biologically his ignited a profound spiritual awakening. Embracing Buddhism's practical wisdom, he immersed himself in the Dalai Lama’s teachings on happiness, learning to navigate life’s challenges through the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path.
Bell’s mission is to provide examples of how people can use spiritual disciplines like meditation and yoga, coupled with Buddhist beliefs, to travel the journey through life's adversities. He aims to amplify the emotional and spiritual depth of Black male voices, showing how these stories can transform pain into power and passion into purpose. His storytelling empowers others to integrate these practices into their lives for resilience, self-discovery, and personal growth through his fictional characters.
