The Farmer and the son

The Farmer and the Son is a Buddhist parable centered on how attachment creates suffering and pain in our lives.

I love this story. This story resonates with because we (meaning humans) always label every event in our lives as either bad or good.

The parable is asking us to free ourselves from every form of attachment to the outcome of the events in our lives. The parable makes the case that our happiness or suffering is a function of our mental health, versus the outcome truly being bad or good for us in the long run.

I read that wise men and women are not attached to results, but rather live beyond time in the eternal present. That is here they move from, abide, and live. Whether the result of our actions is negative or positive, we should not be attached to it. We have to let it go and move on.

This has been a huge lesson in my life regarding reading reviews of my stories. It is always a great feeling to get a good review and feels twice as worse to get a bad review, but I’ve finally reached the place where a review was simply a review.
